I’m waiving Will Dissly for Jesse James on my fantasy team for week 3. I drafted David Njoku and have been streaming the tight end position since.
Why not Dissly?
You can argue that his touchdowns came in garbage time. They still count in fantasy. I suspect that Dissly is getting targets due to the absence of Doug Baldwin (whom I also drafted and is sitting on my bench). I don’t think his share of targets will continue as Seattle figures out their offense.
I’m also looking at the matchup in week 3. Folks have said a lot about Seattle being desperate for a win, and at home. To me, that sounds like sacks and interceptions from the rising Cowboys defense. Full disclosure, I’m starting the Cowboys D/ST in week 3. I normally like having fantasy players on both sides of a matchup, but I expect this one to stay relatively low scoring, at least on the Seahawks’ side, which another reason I’m waiving Dissly.
Some have made the case that Vance McDonald’s return means fewer targets for Jess James, but I’m not buying it. With Le’Veon Bell still holding out, Pittsburgh will continue to throw more than usual. I think there will be double coverage on Antonio Brown, and that should translate to TE targets. I expect that James still gets the majority over McDonald.
Looking at the matchup, and what the Bucaneers have been doing on offense the last two weeks, it should be safe to assume this game will be a shootout. More red zone opportunities without the Steelers star running back spells TE targets and fantasy touchdown points.
Other Options at Tight End
In my league, the only remaining options for TE on waivers are Eric Ebron and Austin Hooper. If someone gets Jesse James before me off waivers, I’ll go with Ebron. Given that Jack Doyle is out, and Ebron’s getting more of the work from Andrew Luck, that seems like a safer bet over Hooper.
I’ve dismissed Hooper before, but am now reconsidering that position. Atlanta seems to target him more now that they are working on improving their red zone percentage. Even if I get James, I might grab Ebron or Hooper to hold on the bench for bye week.
Just some dude who geeks out on fantasy football.
